Client/Server & Shared Processing


TOPKAPI NETWORK version offers very large prospects as for the use of SCADA software under Windows environment. As easy to use as the stand alone version, it provides distributed processing and the possibility to access a single application from several client computers.


The network SERVER computers assume the functions of data acquisition and processing, historical storage, viewing and command (MMI). The network client computers only assume the MMI functions. Any TOPKAPI SERVER computer includes the client functions (access to another TOPKAPI server application).

The network version brings:

  • more power as data acquisition and processing are distributed : each computer assumes the scanning and calculation of data incorporated in local spreadsheets.
  • more comfort, during operation as well as configuration : whichever is the computer used, the same information is accessible without any extra parameterizing; no data have to be duplicated, they are shared. One may also assign a specific area of the plant to one computer.
  • more operating easiness : operators are free to monitor any part of the plant and issue any command from any computer as far as they are entitled to; the displayed information is fitted to their requirements (mimic display, graph trends, events logger with user formatted messages, filters, ...)


  • Distributed acquisition: each acquisition computer behaves as a data server of the acquired data.
  • Processing: performed the same way as for the basic version of TOPKAPI ; data acquired by an other unit may be included in TOPKAPI 's spreadsheet and thus become a local variable. A distributed application can be configured on one station as a unique application : shared processing, see Redundancy.
  • Distributed items: the distributed items do not have to be redefined for each client; they include
  • mimic display (viewing and command) with incorporated graph trends.
  • worksheets (viewing and command)
  • logs with user defined display, filters, merging
  • data issued from connected systems (PLCs, ...)
  • Network communication is optimized so that it is possible to establish remote connections throughout modems and telephone network.



  • PC with MS-Windows 95, 98 NT, 2000 or higher, 2 to 32 computers assuming distributed processing, and any number of client units supported by the network
