Version 5.1 of TOPKAPI will be presented for the first time at Pollutec, and will afterwards be available for first applications in France. 

At first, we recommend to use it for new projects rather than to update existing applications (call your usual sales contact to guide you in your choices). 

Version 5.1 includes more than 200 functional improvement points. AREAL's Web site includes a list summarizing them, in the News section. For advanced users, the comprehensive list of modifications can be found as usual at the beginning of the user manual, where you can easily identify the new items which will prove useful to you.

A few evolutions likely to be of interest to most users are commented here below.


The new version offers complete traceability of client/server connections, whether they are local or remote. It now supports a non limited number of operators and groups, for more flexibility in managing access rights in global deployments within companies, or for applications hosted on servers and shared among several entities.


A new Javascript script motor opens up new opportunities for customizing the HMI and completes the older functions. 

The simplified script language supplied with previous versions is kept to ensure ascending compatibility and because, despite of its limits, it is easier to implement for users not acquainted with computer languages. Our main objective remains to allow you to generate your applications while calling upon a minimum number of scripts to ensure simplicity and maintainability.

  • A native DNP3 protocol driver is now available.
  • As field equipment and supervision remote communication is increasingly ensured through general-purpose IP networks carrying all types of data, communication drivers evolve to meet new needs.

First of all, TOPKAPI adapts to GPRS networks by handling reception of data issued spontaneously by equipment in protocols such as DNP3, IEC 60870-5-104, Sofrel Lacbus.

Event-based communication optimizes data flows, more particularly when associated with time-stamping at the source. Periodical polling is also implemented, with adjustable rate for perfect control of the volume of packets transmitted. When allowed by equipment or protocol, TOPKAPI is able to communicate with devices having no fixed IP address.

Also, "general-purpose" communication media of the DSL type are cheaper than private media ; but, as a counterpart, the user may not benefit from highly reliable service. Using secured backup links, implemented by TOPKAPI, guarantees access to data at any time. 

The most frequent configurations are:

  • IP links secured by serial link: ADSL/GSM or PSTN for example
  • Serial links secured by IP: radio/GPRS for example
  • IP links secured by another IP link: ADSL/GPRS for example

Possible combinations depend on the protocol used, please call us about availability of the solution corresponding to your need.


With the introduction of new functions linked with the Summary module, you now have:

  • Variables selection and filtering tools for instant access to statistics and summary values
  • Statistics of connection to remote units (time and frequency) in the form of functions integrated with connection library objects.
  • Summary objects integrated to the database for easy creation of summary graphs (periodical averages, running times, etc.), detection of slow drifts on the process, alarms for leaks in sectorisation, etc.

All data issued from the graphs or statistical processes on the fly can be copied and pasted into Excel in the form of a table by single click on a button. Also the image of a curve or screen can be copied to be integrated to a report or email.



  • Use SSD hard disk drives for storing operating data if you have high sampling frequencies and many variables stored in graph trend files.
  • The use of a Web server directory located on a SSD significantly improves the performance for mimic views holding many animated items.
  • Use TOPKAPI DB version if you have many variables to be sampled as graph trends (over 30,000).
  • Waste water reports: TOPKAPI allows to print reports in simplified SANDRE format, with the Summary module together with Excel
  • From version 5.0 you can instantiate many devices (more particularly dataloggers) into a single operation using the SOFTLINK wizard using a list contained in a CSV-type file.
